Having someone shoot you to get out of being pledged? That’s worth a couple of chuckles.
Going to these lengths to get out of military service? Not a joke.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel bad for this dude now.
Honestly man, the only reason I don't feel bad is because as a member of a black fraternity, I can only imagine what Omega Psi Phi had to deal with during those days where countless people were thinking that being shot was "safer" than pledging their fraternity. Black Greeks have enough bad truth to deal with. We don't need the lies.
This is a double-edged sword for me. On the one hand I'm thinking that if these cats were scared they shouldn't have shown interest in pledging. They also had the option to say "thanks, but no thanks". On the other hand, if only 5% of the nightmarish stories I've heard are true, including the widely reported beaitngs and deaths of young black men online, then maybe we as a community need to re-evaluate the process and what the true purposes of the organizations are.
