So I’m on a Bowie kick right now.  This happens from time to time.  Bowie’s absolutely fascinating to me on a number of levels, most notably the ability to write these really bizarre songs within the pop construct.  That and that his voice is so incredibly confident at every step, even though I’m not quite sure he can sing.
Oh, and the Duke’s got game.  Him pulling Iman is one of the greatest come-ups ever.  Claims to be gay in hte ’70s, then winds up with a model.  That don’t happen too much where I grew up.  Where I grow up, once you say you’re gay, you just have to be gay from there on out.  I’m not sure when they started selling round-trip tickets for that destination.  But Bowie didn’t just get to fly back.  He wound up in first-class…for the rest of his life.
Moving on, got a question for you.  Sampling is a beautiful thing for rap music, but it’s also allowed a lot of wack dudes to destroy fantastic records.
The question–is there a greater disparity between a song and a track sampled from it than there is between “Under Pressure” and “Ice Ice Baby?”  I mean, really…you people that liked “Ice Ice Baby” should be ashamed of yourselves.
Bowie and Queen killed this one.  Bowie gave one of the greatest verses in pop history.

‘Cause love’s such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And loves dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure

Then Rob Van Winkle gives us whatever that shit was.
