Oh buddy, this is a serious weekend in Atlanta. Along with the NABJ meeting, TD Jakes has brought his folks along to praise God and anger hotel workers (more on that later), Jesse Jackson is bringing people in to campaign for an extension of the Voting Rights Act (more on that later), and Billboard Magazine is having their hip hop convention in Buckhead. Best part about that last thing–Ron Artest is in town for it. Second best thing–Tayari’s at the hotel in Buckhead where that convention’s being held. Oil, meet water. Water, holla at that greasy joker over there.
Anyhoo, NABJ’s been off the meat rack.
Why has NABJ been dope like that, you ask? First, it’s fun to be around a bunch of writers and associated folks. We’re typically good humored people, and that’s necessary for a conference as big as this one. I can’t tell you the numbers, but I’ll tell you this–if someone asked whether there was a casting call at the Hyatt for Tarzan, I wouldn’t find the question to be unrealistic. Maybe not even offensive.
Definitely great living. I wish I had more time to break some of the conference down for yu, but I’ll do that on Monday, probably. I’m stuck using my old man’s stinkin’ Macintosh and I’m on a time crunch, so this’ll have to be too short.
